What I read today: “Donald Trump is ruining my marriage”

OK, so you don’t have to read this essay from New York magazine because it does seem interminable, but it raises an issue I think we are going to see more and more — how can Democrats and Republicans live together?

The last relationship I was in with a Democrat ended in 2005, and though I loved the lady in question, I thought she was crazy for voting for John Kerry and she never tired of making fun of me for backing Bush. If the romance had not ended for other reasons, politics would have definitely killed it. If you can’t agree about abortion being murder, really what can you possibly have in common that overcomes that?

These days, it even goes beyond romantic relationships. I think most of us have lost friends over our support for Donald Trump, and by the same token we’ve probably gladly said goodbye to people who were taken in by Hillary. (You’re with her? Then you’re not with me! See ya!)

Shallow? Maybe… or just staying true to principles. Jesus said you are either for me or against me. I think I know what he meant. “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold.”

  1. I can’t afford to cut off ties with some people who were on the Hillary bandwagon. My step-daughter was…we just don’t talk politics.

    1. I know what you mean. My brother and I don’t agree about anything in politics, but he lives in Michigan , so that’s not too hard. Still I’m not ready to disown him…

  2. Michelle is in St. Louis….she was raised in California…that explains a lot, LOL. As a native Texan, I deny I ever lived in CA.
