Ukrainian plot to help Clinton emerges, but will it be covered up?

Perhaps the most significant story this weekend isn’t the completion of the Robert Mueller report, but rather the surfacing of real evidence that the Ukraine had “colluded” with Americans to tilt the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton.

John Solomon wrote at thehill.com that Ukrainian officials believe Trump adviser Paul Manafort was targeted by Ukrainian law-enforcement officials in an effort to embarrass then-candidate Trump.

Ukraine’s top prosecutor divulged in an interview aired Wednesday on Hill.TV that he has opened an investigation into whether his country’s law enforcement apparatus intentionally leaked financial records during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign about then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in an effort to sway the election in favor of Hillary Clinton.

It’s no secret that Manafort engaged in shady dealings with Ukrainians for years. It’s also no secret that the Justice Department under President Obama had looked at those dealings and decided not to prosecute… but this was low-hanging fruit when Trump hired Manafort as his campaign chairman. It may have enticed Ukrainian officials to curry favor with the Clinton campaign that was fully expected to become the Clinton administration, and thus to Kwak this damaging information about Manafort.

The leak of the so-called black ledger files to U.S. media prompted Manafort’s resignation from the Trump campaign and gave rise to one of the key allegations in the Russia collusion probe that has dogged Trump for the last two and a half years.

Ukraine Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko’s probe was prompted by a Ukrainian parliamentarian’s release of a tape recording purporting to quote a top law enforcement official as saying his agency leaked the Manafort financial records to help Clinton’s campaign.

There’s much more to the story, which Solomon lays out in plain sight. In a country that valued the rule of law, this matter would be pursued vigorously along with the story of how the Clinton campaign colluded with Christopher Steele, the FBI and the Obama White House and Justice Department to set up Candidate Trump with the fake Russia collusion charges.

Of course, based on what has happened for the last two years, I am skeptical that the truth will ever come out or that the guilty parties in the Anti-Trump Conspiracy will ever be prosecuted.
