Barr’s ‘Rope-a-Dope’ leaves Democrats flailing and confused

Two hours of Attorney General Barr’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee is in the bag, and so far there’s no indication that the Democrats will land a punch on Barr.

Or perhaps more accurately they will punch repeatedly with so little impact on Barr that he appears to be adapting Muhammad Ali’s “Rope-a-Dope” strategy against the bigger and more powerful George Foreman. In the words of Pat Benatar, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

Or in the words of Fox News analyst Sol Wisenberg, a former deputy independent counsel, “Honey badger don’t give a bleep!” Time after time, Barr left Democratic senators frustrated and confused as they didn’t get the answers they wanted. Sens. Feinstein, Leahy, Whitehouse and others looked like buffoons.

In the meantime, yes, Republican senators so far have handled themselves with dignity and aplomb as they raised questions about the suspect impartiality of the Obama Justice Department, the FBI, and the Special counsel’s office. Perhaps it has finally dawned on them that President Trump is captain of their ship and that they can either betray him and join the Democratic mutiny or fight like hell and save the nation.
