Comey walks for now, but he will burn later

Well, I’m disappointed just as you are.

The Justice Department has decided not to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey for leaking memos about his private conversations with President Trump to the New York Times.

But please do not lose hope, as Comey will pay in the next life, and probably in this one too. This is a chess game, and if the other side just got to take a pawn off the table, the game is far from lost. Remember, the leaking of documents is the least of the crimes committed by the Obama Justice Department, and conviction would probably just result in a slap on the hand. It’s also not unreasonable to think “high and mighty” Comey could avoid conviction by lying on the stand to go along with his other lies.

I am a little concerned that DOJ concludes that there was no classified information in the Comey memos. That contradicts the analysis of people who I respect such as Andy McCarthy, but again it was probably a subjective judgment that ordinarily we would give the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately, these are not ordinary times. The Comey-orchestrated charade of an investigation against Hillary Clinton made it clear that we have a two-tiered justice system in this country, and so there is no reservoir of good faith left to draw upon. For most of us, if it looks like a cozy deal for someone high and mighty, then hey … guess what? … it’s a cozy deal.

Here’s the news today, as reported by Reuters:

The U.S. Justice Department has decided not to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey despite an internal investigation that found he improperly leaked information to the news media, the department’s Office of Inspector General said on Thursday.

The inspector general’s office, which serves as the agency’s internal watchdog, said Comey shared a handwritten memo with a friend who described it to the New York Times, in an effort by Comey to pressure the Justice Department to launch an independent investigation into his conversations with President Trump.

The memo described a private conversation in which Trump allegedly asked Comey to drop the FBI’s investigation into his then-national security adviser, Michael Flynn. Flynn has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his conversations with Russian officials.

Comey decided to share the contents of the memo after Trump fired him in May 2017.

The Inspector General’s report said that while that memo did not contain classified material, Comey set a dangerous example when he shared sensitive information to create public pressure for official action.

What we have to hope for now is that Attorney General Bill Barr is letting this prosecution slide because he’s going to have his hands full prosecuting Comey and a boatload of others from the corrupt FBI and Obama Justice Department for FISA court abuses, lying to Congress and more as they pursued the phony Russian collusion hoax against President Trump.

In the meantime, we have to put up with self-righteous Comey preening and parading like a peacock in the left-wing media.

He doesn’t care that the inspector general declared him a leaker. So far as he is concerned, he’s been vindicated because they are not prosecuting him. Pretty low bar for moral superiority if you ask me.

Here’s the initial Twitter response from Cardinal Comey:

Sorry, Jim, but you’ll always be a liar and a leaker for as long as you are turning on a spit in Hell’s deepest dungeon. Enjoy your just deserts!
