Peggy Noonan hates Trump more than she loves truth

I am so sick of snooty Peggy Noonan.

She has managed to skate as a serious conservative for the past 30 years on her reputation as a speech writer for Ronald Reagan, but we all knew Ronald Reagan and she is no Ronald Reagan.

Her imperious pronouncements grew tiresome many years since, but in the Age of Trump she is Marie Antoinette daring the masses to eat cake!

Her latest defense of the corrupt establishment came last week when she took the side of the coup plotters against the upstart Trump. Her column proclaimed that “Trump’s Defenders Have No Defense,” the very title of which proves that she — like the Democrats — is either willfully ignorant or ignorantly malicious.

Almost everything in the impeachment hearings this week fleshed out and backed up the charge that President Trump muscled Ukraine for political gain. The pending question is what precisely the House and its Democratic majority will decide to include in the articles of impeachment, what statutes or standards they will assert the president violated.

What was said consistently undermined Mr. Trump’s case, but more deadly was what has never been said. In the two months since Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry was under way and the two weeks since the Intelligence Committee’s public hearings began, no one, even in the White House, has said anything like, “He wouldn’t do that!” or “That would be so unlike him.” His best friends know he would do it and it’s exactly like him.

The reason no one has said that, Ms. Noonan, is because it is completely irrelevant. No one has any doubt what Trump would or would not do because he tells us all the time exactly who he is. Unlike the hypocritical Republicans and disgruntled diplomats, Trump has nothing to hide.

Check back tomorrow for my Real Clear Politics column on the complete lack of substance in the impeachment evidence proffered by Schiff and his sleaze merchants. But all you need to know about Peggy Noonan’s impoverished discernment is that she was smitten with Gordon Sondland, the self-serving EU ambassador who finally had to admit that all of his evidence against Trump was based on his presumptions, not fact.

Noonan — with her enormous love of the ancièn regime — has a hard time disguising her crush on Fiona Hill and the rest of the George Soros operatives working in the State Department and our own corrupt National “Security” Council.

What became obvious in the hearings was the sober testimony from respectable diplomats—not disgruntled staffers with nutty memoirs but people of stature who don’t ordinarily talk—about how the administration operates. It became clear in a new and public way that pretty much everyone around the president has been forced for three years to work around his poor judgment and unpredictability in order to do their jobs. He no doubt knows this and no doubt doesn’t care. Because he’s the boss, they’ll do it his way.

What became clear, Ms. Noonan, is that the president has been surrounded by untrustworthy subordinates for three years, and that like yon Cassius, they “have a lean and hungry look.”

The wolves have circled, but in a nation guided by rule of law, the wolves don’t win just because they are vicious or hungry. The president can hold them off with the shield of truth, and when this impeachment farce gets to the Senate, the wolves will be in the ditch.
