Why are Dems against making sure elections are fair?

Has anyone ever figured out why Democrats think that keeping an accurate record of registered voters is a bad thing?

What about their horror at asking voters to prove who they are before allowing them to vote?

To anyone with a healthy respect for logic and law, those are fundamental pillars of fair elections. But for Democrats they are sure fire signs of “voter suppression,” which in Democrat-speak means they could prevent Democrat voter fraud and lead to Republican victories.

Well, pardon our lawful elections, you merry pranksters! Ensuring that only registered voters cast a ballot is essential to a healthy democracy.

That’s why Judicial Watch just sent “notice-of-violation letters to 19 large counties in five states that it intends to sue unless the jurisdictions take steps to comply with the law and remove ineligible voter registrations within 90 days.”

In a press release, Judicial Watch notes that “Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act requires jurisdictions to take reasonable efforts to remove ineligible registrations from its rolls.”

According to Judicial Watch’s analysis of data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) this year, there are 378 counties nationwide that have more voter registrations than citizens living there and old enough to vote, i.e., counties where registration rates exceed 100%. These 378 counties combined had about 2.5 million registrations over the 100%-registered mark, which is a drop of about one million from Judicial Watch’s previous analysis of voter registration data. Although San Diego County removed 500,000 inactive names from voter rolls following Judicial Watch’s settlement with Los Angeles County, San Diego still has a registration rate of 117% and has one of the highest registration rates in the country.

Literally millions of voters who should not be registered, but are, and yet Democrats will fight every effort to clean up the voter lists and will claim without evidence that following the law is somehow a racist scheme to keep black people from voting.

Really?

The idea of “cleansing” or “purging” voter rolls is nothing new, and it has nothing to do with race. Since I was a first time voter way back in the 1970s, I was always warned, “if you fail to vote in consecutive elections, your name will be removed as a registered voter.”

The reason was two-fold. If you didn’t take inactive voters off the rolls, eventually you would wind up with more dead registered voters than living ones. Plus, you were encouraging people to take their responsibility as citizens seriously. If people knew they might lose their vote, they would take care to exercise it.

This worked fine for decades, but then Democrats lost an election or two and it suddenly became a federal case. Apparently, if you didn’t vote and therefore got removed from the list of registered voters, it was because you were black or a minority or otherwise a likely Democrat voter.

Thus was hatched the debunked conspiracy theory of “voter suppression.”

Mind you, even if you find out that you are not a registered voter when you go to the polls, in most states you can do same-day registration and cast a provisional ballot. So for the most part, it would be impossible to suppress the vote of any legal voter.

But more importantly, states should have a right to demand responsibility from the voters who shape the future through their votes.

As for voter ID, that is an even more nonsensical bugaboo. It is self-evident that if you don’t have to prove your identity before casting a ballot, you can defraud the state very easily. What is to stop anyone from claiming to be anyone else and voting in their stead?

Of course, Democrats say that voter ID laws hurt blacks and minorities the most because they may not have ID. This is insulting to blacks and minorities as it implies they will somehow not be able to figure out how to get ID, but it also raises the question of how all these unidentifiable citizens manage to get by in our tightly controlled economy and society. How do they get Social Security cards? How do they cash checks? All mysteries that the Democrats refuse to answer.

  1. Frank—well said, indeed. Thank you!!

Keep in mind, they can no longer assume that unregistered minorities will vote 90% Democratic. At least that introduces some uncertainty to this time-honored Leftist strategy.

Rule #1: Agree with Democrats or Admit to being a Racist.
