Mitt Romney sounds the death rattle of the old GOP

You knew it was coming, but you still hated to hear it. Mitt Romney’s betrayed his state, his country and his President today when he announced he would vote for the sham impeachment engineered by Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi.

How despicable. We all know that Trump endorsed Mitt Romney in 2012, and that Romney repaid them favor with a vitriolic hateful speech in 2016 attacking Trump as a con man.

We all know that President Trump rose above that petty selfish act by Romney and considered the former Massachusetts Governor to be his Secretary of State. We all know that President Trump then endorsed the turncoat Romney in 2016 to be the carpetbagger senator from Utah.

It was obvious to Trump supporters that both of those decisions by Trump were mistakes, but we appreciated the magnanimity of the president. A smaller person could never have forgiven Romney for his betrayal in 2016.

But President Trump was still trying to make peace with the old Republican Party — the party of George Bush and John McCain. He truly wanted to see if there was room for the old guard in the new order, but as he learned from both the Bushes and McCain, there is no going back.

Now, Romney has arisen as the last representative of the corrupt regime, the last alligator in the Republican swamp, and he has made the “moral” decision to side with a lawless coup against President Trump.

I pity the voters of Utah, who are stuck with this snake for four more years. I pity the Never Trumpers who will elevate Romney to the pantheon of self-serving traitors. And most of all I pity Romney, who shall forevermore be known as the Brutus to Trump’s Julius Caesar.

One difference though. Brutus actually killed Julius Caesar, but Trump is very much alive. As Emerson warned, “When you strike at a king, you must kill him.” The next five years are going to be very hard on Mitt Romney, whose vote today is the death rattle of the old Republican Party.

  1. Great observation about mitt Romney. In addition to your analysis of Romney, I found the fact that he woke up at 4 am each morning nothing astounding. He should get up at 4 am if he wants to compete with Trump’s work ethic. Not only was his “take” of the obstruction of justice article flawed, but he insulted his colleagues by assuming he, alone, was able to think clearly and he was so obviously smarter than they were that he could see the case from the bloodshot eyes of Nadler and Schiff. Well isn’t he morally better than I am? Isn’t he more ethical than the other 50 Republican senators? They are clearly not as brilliant as he is. Why would Romney embrace any conclusion which would come from a group of people who villified him? Who lied about him? His taxes? His misogyny because he had “binders of women”? Who accused him of cruelty to animals? If ANYONE should have judged the Democrats as lying, sneaky opportunists, it SHOULD have been that idiot, Romney. Thank God he wasn’t elected President. I don’t think I could stand 4 or 8 years of self righteousness. He quoted a hymn about goodness and light and why he had to vote his conscience. Besides hoping they would remove Trump and beg for him to lead their party as the interim President, what else was he trying to prove? How much he hates that Trump, who gave lots of money and support to him in 2012? How much he hates Trump because Trump is better at being President than Romney would ever be? What Romney should think about while praying….aside from praying for Trump’s removal…. .is that just because he has led a good life and can get all self righteous on us, there is another phrase Romney, Schiff, Nadler, Pelosi and Tlaib ought to remember:. Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.
