I have written about the horrific self-importance of Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace before, and I have written about the fake conservatism of talking head Jonah Goldberg before, but when these two guys get together, it’s a frothy mess of self-congratulatory Never Trumpism that makes you want to wash down your television with extra-strength hand sanitizer.
Fox News needs to put both of these bloviating fools in quarantine along with Leland Vittert and Neil Cavuto in order to prevent their viral hatred from spreading across the rest of the network. (FAT CHANCE since the Murdoch Boys are following the game plan of King RINO Paul Ryan!)
On “Fox News Sunday” this week, Wallace and Goldberg demonstratesd how terrified they are of new White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, which of course means she is doing a good job.
It was actually kind of fun watching Wallace and Goldberg slobber all over each other as they tried to out-rabid each other to see who had the more virulent strain of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Goldberg won by a hair, but it is hard to outdo Chris Wallace for sheer self-important buffoonery.
Wallace first was shocked that McEnany would suggest the press corps would prefer to keep churches closed and for President Trump to fail. He then claimed that McEnany was wrong to suggest that the political unmasking of Gen. Flynn was inappropriate. Obviously he was butt-hurt by McEnany’s suggestion that reporters are refusing to ask the right questions.
Goldberg joined in, calling McEnany’s behavior “indefensible and grotesque.” He continued:
“What Donald Trump wants in a press secretary is a Twitter troll who goes on attack, doesn’t actually care about doing the job they have and instead wants to impress really an audience of one and make another part of official Washington another one of these essentially cable news and Twitter laboratory arenas.”
No, Jonah, he wants a press secretary who won’t be intimidated by Fox News trolls such as yourself and Wallace and who will tell the American public the truth directly rather than wait for your kind to stop lying.
Fortunately, one true conservative was on hand — increasingly rare for Fox News. Josh Holmes, the former chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Holmes politely told Wallace to stuff it.
“What’s missing from this conversation … is the context by which she is making these statements. I think any spokesperson in the Trump world, whether it’s in the White House or the campaign, finds themselves under constant attack by the press. The confrontational nature by which journalists approach the questioning is not really to obtain much information so much as to try to back them into a corner and I think Kayleigh said, ‘I’m not going to play that game,’ so yeah, it is completely different… but I think it is reflective of the nature we find ourselves in,” Holmes explained.
Naturally, Wallace was not going to let that stand as the last word, so he dragged the corpse of his own dead journalistic career back out to speak for him:
“Let me just say, Sam Donaldson and me in the Reagan White House, we were pretty tough on the White House press secretaries and we never had our religious beliefs questioned or were lectured in what we should ask.”
That just shows how out of touch Wallace is. If he can’t see the difference between the press corps in 1980 and the press corps in 2020, then he has proven himself an unreliable analyst. In 1980 you can bet that the press corps didn’t question the president’s religious beliefs either, but that has happened to Trump repeatedly. As for the need to tell reporters what to ask, an old adage (slightly modified) says it best:
“You can lead a jackass reporter to the truth, but you can’t make them report it.”

On Chris Wallace’s Show this last Sunday…
Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, criticized White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Sunday, saying her treatment of the White House Press Corps is “indefensible and grotesque” and akin to being a “Twitter troll” who does not care about her actual job.
“Can somebody please direct Jonah to the nearest fainting couch? It should be noted that Jonah is a never Trump guy who isn’t going to like anything done by anyone in this administration. And Chris Wallace has become as unwatchable as Jake Tapper or Chuck Todd.”
i heard wallace is a registered democrat and sounds like one in how he crafts his talking point questions.
