Sunday morning in the tank with George (Stephanopoulos, that is)

From time to time, I propose to examine the national media’s performance as independent arbiters of the news. This week it’s ABC’s “This Week with Clintonista George Stephanopoulos.” Ahem! The word Clintonista is actually missing from the title, but shouldn’t it be there, considering that the host is really a Democratic operative rather than a journalist?

I suppose no one turns to ABC for fair coverage of the news in the first place, but really couldn’t they just do a better job of pretending they aren’t in the tank for Democrats? On this Sunday’s episode, it takes till 48 minutes into the show to hear from anyone remotely conservative — Jason Riley, columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and he’s, well, (hope this doesn’t ruin it for you) not really conservative.

The first segment of the show was dedicated to two liberal lawyers gleefully describing how Mueller is going to make mincemeat out of Trump with his report. The fact that one of those lawyers was Alan Dershowitz (who is at least fair) does not take away from the fact that there was no one on the site defending Trump or attacking Mueller and the fake one-sided investigation.

Next up, in separate segments, were two Democratic senators, Amy Klobuchar and Sherrod Brown, and one notorious and hateful Never-Trump Republican, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio.

Finally, the infamous Powerhouse Roundtable brought out liberal journalist Cokie Roberts, Trump hater and former GOP politico Amanda Carpenter (who would hire her now except ABC or a Democrat?), and Michelle Cottle, the New York Times editorial board’s lead writer on national politics (try to think of the last editorial on any topic in the Times that wasn’t liberal pabulum). And finally there was good old Jason, who though well-meaning barely has a pulse as a conservative. He is certainly no friend of President Trump. (If you don’t believe me, consider this: In 2008 he wrote a book called “Let Them In: The Case for Open Borders.” Nuff said?)

Well, that was a waste of 60 minutes. As a famous boxer once said after taking a beating, “I should’ve stood in bed.”
