There was more evidence this weekend that the culture war is not completely lost in Hollywood yet.
I earlier wrote about actor Isaiah Washington’s fight to encourage Hollywood conservatives to stop kow-towing to the radical left, but he’s not alone.
Actor John O’Hurley (best known for his role as Elaine’s eccentric boss J. Peterman on “Seinfeld”) took to the airwaves Monday to blast two fellow actors who were threatening to “expose” Hollywood elites who attend an upcoming Trump fund-raiser in Beverly Hills. (See video below.)
Here are the tweets from “Will & Grace” co-stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack:
As you can see, the idea was to try to intimidate Hollywood conservatives for not thinking exactly like the Hollywood majority. Looks like McCormack and Messing want to stop conservatives from working due to their political views. There’s a name for that. It’s called blacklisting, and it has an ugly history in Hollywood. Look up McCarthyism and you will see how far Hollywood will go to stamp out dissent.
It’s not working this time — so far — because brave conservatives like Jon Voigt, Isaiah Washington and John O’Hurley are speaking out.
O’Hurley went on “America’s News Headquarters” Monday on Fox News to talk about the danger of suppressing political thought. (Sadly the Fox host was Fake News Leland Vittert, but he managed not to insult O’Hurley so we have to be thankful for all favors.)
O’Hurley was brilliant in defending free speech and in exposing the dangers of blacklisting. Here is what he had to say about Messing and McCormack in particular:
“Let me just say I’m embarrassed for both of them because I know them both, I’ve worked with Debra before. They’re both smart people… they do wonderful work,” he explained. “But, they’re pushing a case that falls apart from the sheer weight of its lunacy, as though the Hollywood community needs to be purged of this social and intellectual hygiene problem called conservative thinking. It underscores the fact that we aren’t receptive to a diversity of thought which is the exact opposite of what you feel the liberal way would be, and I find that obscene.”
You can watch the entire interview with O’Hurley here:
Meanwhile, President Trump also responded to Messing on Saturday, with his usual panache:
