A nation of whiners: Is this the best we can do in a crisis?

I’m glad that most of the Greatest Generation of World War II has passed away by now so that they do not have to witness the nation of whiners we have become!

Watching the Sunday morning talk shows today has been an exercise in gastric restraint as nearly every minute one of the guests or hosts would say something so offensive that it could induce vomiting.

I don’t want to have to go back through the video to document the multiple instances of our media and political leaders sounding like a bunch of losers, but if you watched any of it, you know what I’m talking about.

Bottom line is that these pampered politicians and talking heads seem to think that someone owes them a worry-free life without interruption. If things go wrong unexpectedly, the most important thing is to blame our leaders — as if President Trump we’re responsible for a new virus surfacing in Hubei Province in China — whether at a wet market or a bio-weapons lab.

“How could you let this happen?” Martha Raddatz might as well have been screaming at her guests every time she opened her mouth on ABC’s “This Week.”

It is almost as though someone needs to slap the combined media-political establishment across the face, and shout, “Snap out of it! You’re not helping! STFU!”

Who the hell cares how many ventilators are being shipped out on any given day!?! Does anyone really think that any of our fellow Americans are trying to sabotage either the nation’s health or economy? Hey idiots! The ventilators are on their way! This is an unprecedented crisis, and we are doing the best we can.

Does anyone really think that when we went to war against Japan and Germany in World War II that we were fully prepared even though we had nearly a decade to plan for that eventuality? Hell no, but we had everyone supporting the president and made damn sure we got the job done.

In this “war against an invisible enemy,” we had at best two months to plan and get on wartime footing. Realistically, we had about one month from the time we knew what was happening in Wuhan, China, until when the same thing was happening here. If you think one month is a lot of time to get anything done in a free country, you probably also think that pigs fly. Even in autocratic China, where they could lock people up and grab them off the streets indiscriminately, it took well more than a month to get the crisis under control.

And of course if the president or governors had ordered the suspension of civil rights to make things happen quicker, the people and especially the media and politicians would have screamed bloody murder.

You see, the one thing we don’t have that the country had in WWII is a pro-American media that is encouraging all Americans to stay calm, work together and support the government. What we have instead is a media that foments fear, distrust and unrest. Sad!

Probably I’m being too hard on the nation as a whole. My hope is that in most of the homes across the nation on lockdown, people feel the same way as me, shouting at the TV and telling the Jake Tappers and Chuck Todds and Martha Raddatzes to “Quit yer whining!”

We’ve got a war to win, and the complainers aren’t helping.

  1. Something just isn’t right. The data do not match such actions as we have taken. I just saw a Johns Hopkins Dr. indicate that millions would die in the US hold. Who would use Italy with the second oldest number of citizens in the world to extrapolate to America? Only someone who wants to hype the situation. The Media may be those held accountable by our citizens for this mess.

    1. Thanks for your comment. We won’t know for a while, but I too am suspicious of the reaction so far. When you have fewer than 400 deaths, it is hard to justify shutting down the entire economy.

      1. I, too, have been suspicious from the first. As I indicated, the data has never justified such a reaction. The normal flu in the US kills on average 30,000/yr with millions being infected, even with a vaccine. Why would that not be a Pandemic every year, if this is one? Being in my 9th decade of life I have seen a lot of strange happenings on a national scale, but this has to be the strangest. Destroying an economy over unverified data sounds crazy to me. This is so bad that we will never get the full story. And, you certainly are correct in that the country has too many whiners. What makes them such? RLS
