I wasn’t a big fan of John Dowd when he was heading up President Trump’s legal team responding to the persecution of the president by Inspector Javert, er, I mean Robert “Uranium One” Mueller.
Dowd’s legal strategy in defending Trump seemed too often to be to play footsy with Mueller. He also got caught in some embarrassing PR blunders.
But now that Dowd no longer represents the president officially, he seems to be one of the loudest voices defending Trump and blasting Mueller. The latest instance came in his interview for an ABC podcast called “The Investigation,” which will examine in depth Mueller’s probe (presumably from an anti-Trump slant since it’s from ABC).
According to ABC, Dowd says he thinks Mueller will try to slink away in the dark of night without releasing a report at all because there is no evidence against Trump of any wrong-doing.
“I don’t think there’ll be a report,” John Dowd told ABC News in a wide-ranging interview for the premiere episode of “The Investigation,” a new podcast focused on the probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller. “I will be shocked if anything regarding the president is made public, other than ‘We’re done.’” …
In the end, Dowd says, Mueller’s probe will go down in history as “one of the greatest frauds this country’s ever seen.”
“I know exactly what [Mueller] has,” Dowd said. “I know exactly what every witness said, what every document said. I know exactly what he asked. And I know what the conclusion or the result is,” he said, describing the sweeping efforts by Trump’s legal team to assess the case by speaking to dozens of witnesses. Based on that knowledge, Dowd said, “there’s no basis. There’s no exposure. It’s been a terrible waste of time.”
I’m not sure if Dowd is correct about Mueller keeping silent, but he is certainly right about the fraud, also known as the witch hunt (or in the case of Javert’s investigation of Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables,” as the persecution).
This news breaks the same week when it is being reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee has also found no evidence of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
“If we write a report based upon the facts that we have, then we don’t have anything that would suggest there was collusion by the Trump campaign and Russia,” said Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, in an interview with CBS News last week.
Of course, the committee is really being run by Democrat Mark Warner, and as NBC notes, the final report “will not be good for Trump” and will drop many months from now when it can do maximum damage to President Trump’s re-election campaign. That report will follow a volley of political witch hunts against Trump being prepped in the House by such exemplars of non-partisan “fairness” as Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler.
So what have we learned? Facts don’t matter to Democrats; winning elections does. But you already knew that.
