If we needed more evidence (we don’t) that the Fake News Media is a left-wing filter of information whose (sole?) purpose is destroying Trump, we got it in spades on Wednesday when Homeland Security Chief Kirstjen Nielsen testified before the House Homeland Security Committee.
Nielsen was called to explain the president’s declaration of a national emergency on the southern border, yet the coverage by the three main news channels was abysmal.
Think back one week (yes, it was just one week ago!) to the testimony of convicted felon Michael Cohen before a similar House Committee. There was no national emergency involved. We learned nothing of substance except that former attorney Michael Cohen hates his former client Donald Trump and “thinks” he is a bad guy.
Remember that “stunning” testimony? In particular, do you remember all the cameras surrounding Cohen? Do you remember the day-long coverage of Cohen’s testimony on all the news channels and indeed even on network channels? Yet, despite all the sound and fury, we learned nothing of substance from Cohen except that he still has not learned it’s a bad idea to lie to Congress.
Fast forward one week to this morning’s testimony by Nielsen. As the Border Patrol reported yesterday, more migrant families and minors than ever before are crossing the border. Indeed we are on track to take 1 million illegals into custody this year alone. How exactly do Democrats plan to handle the crush on our law enforcement capacity represented by that surge? How many hundreds of thousands of illegals made it across the border undetected? Democrats don’t care obviously and neither does the national press.
There was limited coverage on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News of Nielsen’s opening statement and a few minutes of questioning and then the screen went blank. Well not blank exactly — where it actually went to was back to the studio where the usual talking heads told everyone what they always say — that Trump is an evil racist who wants to hurt immigrant children.
You see, the cable news machine is not really about news at all — it is about shaping opinions, and in general pushing opinion leftward by repeatedly expressing Democratic propaganda. Even Fox News is guilty of this more and more.
There IS a national emergency on the southern border. That is indisputable. There is also a national emergency in the vaunted Fourth Estate, which has the capacity to duct-tape the truth and suffocate it in the back of a satellite truck instead of broadcasting it to the nation. If these were news channels, they would cover the news and not just their own flapping jaws.
