The day after I wrote about Victor Davis Hanson signing the death certificate for journalism, along comes scientific proof that U.S. journalism is indeed “fake news.”
A study by the RAND Corporation has concluded that over the last 30 years, “U.S. journalism has become more subjective.”
And that study actually looked at reporting from 1989 to 2017. You can imagine how much worse the situation has gotten in the last two years as the major media outlets have succumbed completely to Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Here’s the lede:
U.S.-based journalism has gradually shifted away from objective news and offers more opinion-based content that appeals to emotion and relies heavily on argumentation and advocacy, according to a new RAND Corporation report.
And here’s the conclusion:
“Our research provides quantitative evidence for what we all can see in the media landscape: Journalism in the U.S. has become more subjective and consists less of the detailed event- or context-based reporting that used to characterize news coverage,” said Jennifer Kavanagh, a senior political scientist and lead author of the report, which is second in a series of research into the phenomenon of “Truth Decay,” the declining role of facts and analysis in civil discourse and its effect on American life.
Using a text analytics tool, researchers “scanned millions of lines of text in print, broadcast and online journalism from 1989 (the first year such data was available via Lexis Nexis) to 2017 to identify usage patterns in words and phrases.”
What they found was predictable to anyone who actually pays attention to news coverage with any degree of critical reasoning. “The findings point to a gradual and subtle shift over time and between old and new media toward a more subjective form of journalism that is grounded in personal perspective.”
In other words, reporters like to hear themselves talk. They like being important. They like being part of the story. They like making news more than reporting it.
It’s nothing new to folks like you and me. I’ve got an entire book dedicated to documenting the Fake News industry over the last 15 years. “The Media Matrix: What If Everything You Know Is Fake?” begins back in 2005 when only Bernard Goldberg was sounding the alarm and it end with Jim Acosta and the era of Celebrity Journalism. Fortunately, President Trump had the temerity to challenge the Fake News Media directly, so now people are ready to start hearing the truth about being lied to.
Check out the RAND Corporation study, and send it to your friends and family who still trust the nightly news. They need to be protected from the Zombie Journalism that still walks among us pretending to be the real thing.
My new book is “The Media Matrix: What If Everything You Know Is Fake,” which offers many examples of the press being the enemy of the truth. To support my work, please consider buying “The Media Matrix” or my “Why We Needed Trump” trilogy, which documents the downward spiral of the USA before Trump arrived on the scene. The books are available at Amazon in paperback or Kindle editions. Go here for a free sample: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/sitb/B07PDQBJM4
