I recently published three books under the title “Why We Needed Trump” that cataloged the failure of politics in the last 15 years to fight for American values. The latest evidence of the necessity of a President Trump is easily observable in the fight over the citizenship question on the 2020 Census.
First of all, no other Republican president would have insisted on the question being restored in the first place. Do you think George W. Bush cared how many citizens were in the United States? Or non-citizens? Remember the proposed North American Union that would have virtually erased borders between Canada, the United States and Mexico?
Bush didn’t care about our sovereignty and neither did most other politicians until Trump came along and stated the obvious — “We either have borders or we don’t have a country!”
But there was never any doubt that the open-borders crowd would try to stop the Commerce Department from asking a citizenship question on the Census. The lawsuits were predictable. So was the fecklessness of Chief Justice Roberts devising a sophistic argument against allowing the citizenship question after first admitting that it was totally legal.
Here’s where the necessity of Trump becomes as clear as ever. Instead of rolling over and playing dead when the Supreme Court issues a stupid 5-4 decision to try to stall the citizenship question long enough to make it impossible to be included next year, President Trump over-rode his bureaucratic know-it-alls who were ready to surrender and said, “NOT SO FAST!” Trump approached it the way a businessman approaches every obstacle — as something which can and must be overcome in order to achieve success.
So now, two weeks after the court’s idiotic ruling, Attorney General William Barr has said that he sees a legal way forward to add the citizenship question. We should find out what the solution is in the next few days, but it may well include an executive order to establish that the question arises directly under the president’s Article II constitutional powers.
I know the Census bureaucrats said they needed to have the Census forms printed right away or they would miss their precious deadlines, but anyone who has ever worked in a business knows that when an emergency arises, you find a way to solve it. If they can’t find a printer who will do the job and still allow the Census to go forward NEXT YEAR, then they should all be fired! If they can’t figure out how to add an extra page to the Census before NEXT YEAR, then they should all be FIRED! If they say “It can’t be done,” they should all be FIRED!
Trump was apparently right when he declared “Only I can fix it!”
