When it comes to Brett Kavanaugh, there are two kinds of journalists — the ones who hate him and will do anything to destroy him and the ones who are fair.
The problem, of course, is that the fair ones can only sit idly by while the haters run the red light of journalistic ethics and ram Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh with anonymous sources, discredited rumors and wild speculation.

The New York Times publication of the hit piece by Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly on Sunday was a low point in modern journalism, and certainly merits a defamation lawsuit by Justice Kavanaugh, who was accused by a political opponent of sexually assaulting a woman who has no recollection of the incident.
I’ve already written about the illogic of the allegations against Kavanaugh, and I want to hold responsible not just the reporters and their editors, but also everyone who read the story and found Kavanaugh guilty on the basis of its unsubstantiated hearsay.
That goes for Democrat political operatives, media personalities and, yes, even presidential candidates.
At least six of the Democrats running for president called for Kavanaugh to be impeached on the basis of this one unsubstantiated rumor. They are Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker, former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke.
What is really scary is that all but Beto and Buttigieg have law degrees. Apparently they missed the classes on rules of evidence and libel.
The president rightly called on the reporters and everyone else involved in publishing the story to resign. You can watch that here, but of course don’t hold your breath waiting for either accountability or an apology from the Times.
Of course, what most conservatives have come to understand in the past decade is that reporters and newspapers that hate conservatives is the standard today. Sadly, journalists and politicians control the public debate in 21st century America, and Fake News means that Americans can no longer be sure they are getting the straight story.
Just as the slandered Nick Sandmann, just as they promoted Jussie Smollett, just as they lied about Trump and Russia or Trump and racism, they will lie about anything that helps Democrats or hurts Republicans.
We have to change the laws on libel and make newspapers and other media outlets accountable for what they write. They can’t hide behind the First Amendment if they lie or disregard the truth for political purposes.
