You didn’t have to watch long to figure out that Bruce Castor, the lead attorney for President Trump in his second impeachment trial, is a total stiff.
Practically the first words out of his mouth were “I am the lead prosecutor.” He quickly corrected himself, but the damage was done. Castor has introduced himself as a hapless buffoon, and right away I was asking myself “What Never Trumper convinced Trump to hire this train wreck of an attorney?”
But it got worse. Much worse!
The second thing he said was, “Before I begin, I want to comment on the outstanding presentation from our opponents, and the emotion that welled up in Congressman Raskin about his family being here during that terrible day.”
Say what? “Outstanding presentation”?!?!? How about emotionally manipulative, fact-devoid presentation?
Do we really need at attorney on Trump’s side whose natural instinct is to comfort and praise the liars on the other side?
Hell no! And it went downhill from there. The entire argument of the first day of the trial was on the topic of whether it was constitutional to try a former president, but Castor used much of his two hours of debate time to talk about everything but the Constitution. Much of it was meaningless sucking up to senators, many of whom are enemies of the Constitution and certainly of Castor’s client.
Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, who served on the president’s team during the first impeachment, was shocked by how bad Castor was.
“There is no argument,” Dershowitz said. “I have no idea what he is doing. I have no idea why he is saying what he is saying.”
As described at Breitbart.com, “Dershowitz added that Castor spent more time introducing himself to the senators, but noted that the American people are ‘entitled to an argument — a constitutional argument.’ “Maybe he’ll bring it home, but right now, it does not appear to me to be effective advocacy.”
Hell no! He didn’t bring anything home except his own incompetence.
In fact, by the time the arguments were over, he had actually lost one of the Republican votes. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana had voted last week that the trial was unconstitutional, but by the time he heard Castor’s talk he changed his mind.
Cassidy said Castor’s argument “was disorganized, random, had nothing — they talked about many things, but they didn’t talk about the issue at hand.
“And so, if you — if I’m an impartial juror and I’m trying to make a decision based upon the facts as presented on this issue — then the House managers did a much better job.”
Sadly, I have to agree.
Trump will probably be acquitted in this sham of a show trial, but if he leaves Castor in place as his lead attorney, he will miss a golden opportunity to educate the American public and to hold the Democrats accountable for their political gamesmanship.
Mr. President, put attorney Castor on the bench and bring in Rudy Giuliani or Leo Terrell or Matt Gaetz as your representative. You are defending not just yourself but your 75 million voters. Stand up and stand strong!

I watched him for about two minutes and could tell he was on the wrong track to help , so I turned him off. Frank nailed the problem with his comments that he let down 75 million people with telling us how good the other side was in their presentation and their goodness. Also, I agree with Dershowitz, what was his message? The issue at hand seemed far away. RLS
We watched the entire proceedings. After the dynamics of the house managers, Castor appeared wimpy. At first I liked
his courteous acknowledgements and his historical references; but he left me hoping Schoen would be the whip to fill the empty spaces. In truth, I fell asleep half way through Schoen; weary, I guess, of observing him holding on to his absent yamulke during water breaks (religious ritual?). All we can hope is that the rest of the Republicans hold the line and remember the reason WHY.
I don’t really need to add my 2 cents because I agree with Mr. Miele’s entire column and the comments from Rick Spencer and Nancy/Bill McGunagle. I watched the entire proceedings, too. I’ll never get those hours back. Instead of praising the Dems, Castor should never have mentioned any of it except to say their dramatics (Raskin crying) was worthy of an Oscar but they never presented any concrete facts. He could have reminded his viewers that Cuomo has the worst reputation in the New York area, even received an emmy, but that didn’t make one thing he said good sense. Before he even first introduced himself, Castor should have gotten up and did the phony hand clap Pelosi does. “Good show, good show.” Then said, “But that’s all it was. A show. It had nothing to do with the law.” He should have immediately accused them of never having read the Constitution but to rewrite what they obviously do not understand. Unless I’m wrong and as one of Mr. Miele’s articles suggests, could he possibly be playing the Dems as though he were “Columbo”? Disarm them? Confuse them with his simplicity? When will he start “running rings around them”?

Good to know “Lionel Nation” Michael LeBrun felt the same way we do. He mention how Castor should have confronted Raskin and the others by doing the handclap at them while saying that it was great theater but that’s all it was. Theater. Nothing made any real life sense. When will that happen? At least Mike Lee objected to their obvious lies. Raskin was flustered, then said it didn’t really have much to do with their point. Lies were caught then.
How much of the Democrat blathering were concrete lies that were told by the Democrat’s in their entire presentation?
