Today (Aug 13, 2020) President Trump announced at the White House a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
“This deal is a significant step towards building a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous Middle East,” Trump said.
The deal calls for full diplomatic recognition between the two countries in exchange for Israel halting its announced plan to annex the West Bank. The president sees it as an historic first step leading to a comprehensive peace agreement that joins Israel and the Arab states in a common front against Iran.
Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law helped broker the deal and he spoke about how President Trump’s leadership made the deal possible.
“You can’t solve problems that have gone unsolved by doing it the same way that people before you have tried and failed. The president takes untraditional approaches, he does things in different ways, but he uses common sense and he tries to unite people by focusing on common interests instead of allowing them to focus on their common grievances.”
Although Kushner is typically not considered a friend of the conservative movement, in this case he may have supplied one of the key ingredients to a successful Trump re-election campaign. Democrats talk big, but Trump gets big results.
