Nothing better exemplifies the hideous arrogance of the Deep State than Robert Mueller’s peevish response to Attorney General Barr’s letter to Congress about the special counsel’s report.
As reported by the Washington Post and numerous other sources on the eve of Barr’s testimony to Congress, Mueller was apparently beside himself after Barr said that Mueller had found no conspiracy between Trump and the big bad Russians and that complaints of obstruction did not rise to the level of a crime.
According to the Post, Mueller wrote a letter to Barr complaining about Barr’s letter, and then talked to Barr in a subsequent phone call. “When Barr pressed him whether he thought Barr’s letter was inaccurate, Mueller said he did not, but felt that the media coverage of the letter was misinterpreting the investigation, officials said.”
This is really too precious. One way to read this statement is that Mueller had reached the same conclusion as Trump about the mainstream media — namely that most of it is Fake News!
But let’s go back to the actual wording of Mueller’s complaint as reported by the Post:
“The summary letter the Department sent to Congress and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24 did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions. There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation. This threatens to undermine a central purpose for which the Department appointed the Special Counsel: to assure full public confidence in the outcome of the investigations.”
Mind you, in that subsequent phone call, Mueller said Barr’s letter was not inaccurate, so Mueller like a wannabe Supreme Court Justice is apparently complaining about Barr’s obtuse inability to see the penumbras and shadows behind the plain English in the report. But someone is going to have to translate the penumbra intended in the final sentence of Mueller’s lament for me. How bizarre that Mueller thinks “a central purpose” of the special counsel appointment was to “assure public confidence in the outcome of the investigation.” That is so “cart before the horse” that it makes my head spin.
How exactly did appointing St. Bob assure that the public would have confidence in the outcome? Wasn’t Bob just one more Deep State flunky doing the bidding of his masters? Didn’t the hope for “public confidence” in the outcome of the investigation go up in smoke when Mueller appointed the Angry Democrats as his partners-in-crime? And more seriously, shouldn’t public confidence be earned by an investigation instead of being assumed at the outset?
If Mueller had actually tried to figure out why the Democrats had framed Trump in the first place, I would be more inclined to trust his whiny complaints about mean old President Trump’s intemperate tweets. Instead, I read the Mueller report as just the latest proof of how corrupt and decadent Washington has become. If the institutions of the Deep State are nothing but a whited sepulcher, then Robert Mueller is an apt choice to play the Crypt Keeper.
I’m sure the reason this story was leaked the night before Barr’s testimony was to give Democrats ammunition for their “destroy Trump” campaign, but I am confident that Attorney General Barr will not only have the truth as a shield, but that he will have the angels at his back.

I am always adding my two cents and I really don’t need to chime in. Turns out that in every article you write, you get to the heart of the matter without my chiming in. You’ve done it again brilliantly with your analysis of Bob Mueller’s faux anger at Attorney General Barr.
Thanks Joe: I feel like if I can stay one step ahead of you, I am really on my game! Don’t worry about adding your 2 cents; you always have insights that shed light.
