A new political low as Highlights children’s magazine goes after Trump over immigration

You probably read about the knitting interest-group website that banned Trump supporters. That makes about as much sense as a grocery store banning food lovers, right? But at least the target of the scorn was grown-ass people who could be expected to know why they support the president and his policies.

Now a new low has been set in the Trump Derangement Syndrome self-flagellation business. Highlights magazine (known when I was a kid as Highlights for Children) has stepped into politics with a disgusting attack on the president over immigration policy.

From CBR.com (a comic book website) we get this news:

Following a report exposing the inhumane conditions at President Donald Trump’s immigrant detention center in Clint, Texas, Highlights Magazine CEO Kent Johnson issued a statement condemning family separation at the border. He called on readers to contact their government representatives to halt the practice in the name of “human decency.”

“As a company that helps children become their best selves — curious, creative, caring, and confident — we want kids to understand the importance of having moral courage. Moral courage means standing up for what we believe is right, honest, and ethical — even when it is hard,” Johnson wrote in a statement posted to Twitter.

You’ve heard the reports on the Fake News Media about migrant kids without toothpaste. This certainly touched the heart of Mr. Johnson who decided he knows more about immigration policy than the good people who are in charge of protecting us from those entering our country illegally.

“… we denounce the practice of separating immigrant children from their families and urge our government to cease this activity, which is unconscionable and causes irreparable damage to young lives.”

“This is not a political statement about immigration policy,” Johnson said. “This is a statement about human decency, plain and simple. This is a plea for recognition that these are not simply the children of strangers for whom others are accountable. This is an appeal to elevate the inalienable right of all children to feel safe and to have the opportunity to become their best selves.”

No, it is a political statement. It is a manipulation of the facts and a denial of reality. The United States is a humane country that is being held hostage by Democrats in Congress who refuse to change the broken laws that encourage families to put their children at risk by sending them on long treks hundreds of miles away from their homes.

Moreover, if Highlights is willing to show their left-wing bias on this issue, how can we as parents trust them with our children’s education?

Let’s show the moral courage to stand up to know-it-all bullies like Mr. Johnson and the Ravelry.com knitting fascists who want to impose their political views on the rest of us. Patriotic Americans need to stand with our president as he works to make America safe again.

  1. Thank goodness that my children, grandchildren, and most of the great grandchildren are grown. I subscribed to Highlights for years for my children and grandchildren. Will never subscribe for another child.
