Two columns from opposite ends of the political spectrum today show that President Trump is close to accomplishing the greatest one-man war of liberation in history since Simon Bolivar threw off the chains in South America.
From the right, we get Conrad Black’s essay at the National Review titled “The Trump Steamroller.” From the left we get Thomas Friedman’s lament at the New York Times, “‘Trump’s Going to Get Re-elected, Isn’t He?’” The point of both essays is that President Trump is a one-man wrecking crew who has confounded the Democrats, the Deep State and the Fake News Media (although Friedman thinks that is a bad thing!).
Black, whom I have written about before, cleverly describes President Trump’s Deep State enemy as OBushinton — the establishment elite who could thrive in the service of either George W. Bush or Barack Obama (that is saying something, isn’t it?). It is just such a cabal that confronts Trump daily as he goes about his nation-rebuilding.
Very few people imagined that Trump could be as transformative as he has been, given that almost no one in either party in Congress supported him at the outset. And for his enemies, the thought of what he might achieve in the next five years is seriously disturbing.
For the first two years of the Trump presidency, this resistance movement had thought they could stop Trump with impeachment, but now they face a new election — and in the face of the president’s dogged pro-American agenda, the Democrats have dug in their heels to oppose him on every front, leading to their current pro-socialist, anti-American circular firing “squad.”
What is astonishing and unprecedented is that instead of fudging their differences with the president where he has clearly succeeded (as Landon, Willkie, and Dewey did with Roosevelt), almost all the Democrats have retreated into a more extreme dissent from the administration in every area and have amplified their personal attacks on him to a level unheard since Watergate, and apart from that, since the Civil War. The Democratic party has now pretty well locked itself into an inescapable confinement of commitments to open borders, free health care for everyone including those who enter illegally in their millions; a green terror that will disemploy millions and achieve nothing useful; open-ended reparations for about 80 million African Americans and Native Americans; a doubling of upper-level personal income taxes; and a definition of “reproductive rights” that extends to the killing of live, born, and separated children. There is no chance that the voters could possibly support any of this; it makes George McGovern seem like Boss Tweed, and Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda in the 1960s like George and Martha Washington.
This is where good old globalist New York Times liberal Tom Friedman enters the picture. He’s smart enough to know that in a battle between capitalism and socialism, Trump wins every time. Heck, it sounds like he could almost even win Friedman’s vote. Listen to Friedman recoil at the Democrat agenda exposed at the June presidential debates:
I was shocked that so many candidates in the party whose nominee I was planning to support want to get rid of the private health insurance covering some 250 million Americans and have “Medicare for all” instead. I think we should strengthen Obamacare and eventually add a public option.
I was shocked that so many were ready to decriminalize illegal entry into our country. I think people should have to ring the doorbell before they enter my house or my country.
I was shocked at all those hands raised in support of providing comprehensive health coverage to undocumented immigrants. I think promises we’ve made to our fellow Americans should take priority, like to veterans in need of better health care.
And I was shocked by how feeble was front-runner Joe Biden’s response to the attack from Kamala Harris — and to the more extreme ideas promoted by those to his left.
Friedman represents the shrinking fraction of the Democrat party that thinks getting elected is more important than ideological purity, but make no mistake — all the Democrats will come together to support the socialist agenda when they consolidate power. It’s just that the old guard like Friedman recognize the danger of going public too soon, or as he says:
“… please, spare me the revolution! It can wait.”
Do you get it? The left is running scared. They want their revolution and they know that only one man stands in the way of them getting it. Everyone know it, which is why this is the most important election since 1864. Voting out Trump would be the equivalent of turning Lincoln out of office. It’s unthinkable and would unleash chaos.
I mentioned Simon Bolivar in the first paragraph, and I will give him the last word. The liberator of South America was also feared and hated by the establishment, and he fought back tirelessly (just imagine what he could have accomplished if he had Twitter!) Listen to his words as he left office in 1830:
Colombians! I have been the victim of ignominious suspicions, with no possible way to defend the purity of my principles. The same persons who aspire to the supreme command have conspired to tear your hearts from me, attributing to me their own motives, making me seem to be the instigator of projects they themselves have conceived, representing me, finally, as aspiring to a crown which they themselves have offered on more than one occasion and which I have rejected with the indignation of the fiercest republican. Never, never, I swear to you, has it crossed my mind to aspire to a kingship that my enemies have fabricated in order to ruin me in your regard.
Do not be deceived, Colombians! My only desire has been to contribute to your freedom and to be the preservation of your peace of mind. If for this I am held guilty, I deserve your censure more than any man. Do not listen, I beg you, to the vile slander and the tawdry envy stirring up discord on all sides. Will you allow yourself to be deceived by the false accusations of my detractors? Please don’t be foolish!
How familiar! The enemies of freedom have not changed their tactics in the last 200 years. As long as Trump is in office, the Democrats are doomed. That is why they are fiercely attacking the president with every possible slander and canard. He’s fighting back against the fascist “squad” not just for himself, but for America.
If you enjoy reading these daily essays, I hope you will consider purchasing one of the books of the “Why We Needed Trump” trilogy. Part 1 is subtitled “Bush’s Global Failure: Half Right.” Part 2 is “Obama’s Fundamental Transformation: Far Left.” Part 3 is “Trump’s American Vision: Just Right.” My new book is “The Media Matrix: What if everything you know is fake?” They are available at Amazon in paperback or Kindle editions.
