He is just a bit player in the history of our republic, but for 90 seconds today Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana stood shoulder to shoulder with Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.
When he was recognized by Rep. Doug Collins to make his short speech to the House and to the American people condemning the phony impeachment of Donald Trump, he made the most of it.
Standing beside a placard showing the sea of red across the map of the United States where Trump was the man elected to champion the forgotten man and woman, Higgins spoke for all of us when he called out the socialist Democrats who would trample on the Constitution out of their hate for us.
Here are the words Higgins delivered, but you must watch him to get the full force of his speech, which for conservatives should stand as a new Gettysburg Address that lays out plainly and magnificently what we are fighting for in the new civil war that the Democrats have declared against us.
“I have descended into the belly of the beast. I have witnessed the terror within, and I rise committed to oppose the insidious forces which threaten our republic.
“America is being severely injured by this betrayal, by this unjust and weaponized impeachment brought upon us by the same socialists who threaten unborn life in the womb, who threaten First Amendment rights of conservatives, who threaten Second Amendment protections of every American patriot and who long ago determined that they would organize and conspire to overthrow President Trump.
“We don’t face this horror because Democrats have all of a sudden become constitutionalists. We’re not being devoured from within because of some surreal assertion of the socialists’ newfound love for the very flag that they trod upon.”
Pointing to the electoral map beside him, he continued, “We face this horror because of this map. This is what the Democrats fear. They fear the true will of ‘We the people.’ They are deep establishment D.C. They fear.
“They call this Republican map flyover country. They call us Deplorables. They fear our faith, they fear our strength, they fear our unity, they fear our votes and they fear our president.
“We will never surrender our nation to career establishment D.C. politicians and bureaucrats. Our republic shall survive this threat from within. American patriots shall prevail.”
