Bill Barr needs to put on his Big Boy Pants

The Justice Department has been in the news more than usual lately, starting with the breaking news Monday that the U.S. attorney had recommended a 7-9 year sentence for Roger Stone on the charge of being arrogant, unflappable, creative and — worst of all — an avid supporter of President Trump.

By the wee hours on Tuesday, President Trump had reacted on Twitter, complaining about the sentencing recommendation:
“This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice!”

Later on Tuesday, of course, the Justice Department announced that it would withdraw the prosecutor’s sentencing recommendation and ask the judge to use her own judgment to determine an appropriate sentence. The Fake News Media went apoplectic with the conspiracy theory that Attorney General Barr was responding to Trump’s tweet rather than to the outrageous excessive sentencing recommendation itself. Moreover, four of the prosecutors who had handled Stone’s case quit in protest.

So far, so good, right? We get something approaching justice for Stone, and at the same time we get rid of four malicious Democrat prosecutors.

Of course, by Thursday, the attorney general is getting cold feet. In an interview with Fake News ABC, Barr said,
“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases.” … “To have public statements and tweets about the department, about people in the department, our men and women here, about cases pending in the department, about judges before whom we have cases,” Barr contended, makes it “impossible for me to do my job and to ensure the courts and the prosecutors and department that we’re doing our work with integrity.”

Well, boo hoo, but it’s not really impossible to do his job. He just has to put up with the loudmouth braying of the Fake News Media just like President Trump does every day.

Bill needs to put on his big boy pants.

After all, Trump was right — and demonstrably so. The conviction of Roger Stone was a travesty of justice, as was made embarrassingly evident when the jury foreman outed herself to defend the honor of the four attorneys who resigned in protest against President Trump.

Turns out the foreman, Tomeka Hart, was an anti-Trump activist whose social media postings were full of bile and gall as she critiqued not just Trump but even Stone himself.

No wonder that Stone’s attorneys filed a motion for a new trial by week’s end. He had better get it, or better yet, hopefully he will be granted clemency by President Trump.

I suppose Bill Barr may not like it … but tough.
