BREAKING: Matt Gaetz offers to resign from Congress to aid Trump in Senate trial

Today on “War Room: Pandemic,” Rep. Matt Gaetz said he was ready to resign his position in Congress in order to serve as an attorney for President Trump in his upcoming Senate trial.

“I love my district. I love representing them, but I view this cancellation of the Trump presidency and the Trump movement as one of the major risks to my people — both in my district and all throughout this great country.

“Absolutely. If the president called me and wanted me to go defend him on the floor of the Senate, that would be the top priority in my life,” Gaetz declared.

Host Steve Bannon enthusiastically endorsed the notion of Gaetz joining the defense team because he would argue the reality of election fraud. (Gaetz is barred from participating while he is a sitting member of Congress.)

Bannon pointed out that the impeachment is not a legal process; it is a political process, and the Democrats goal is to kill the MAGA movement, not to convict Trump.

“Their theory of the case is to literally destroy President Trump in the American people’s eyes … and to destroy the MAGA movement underneath it,” Bannon warned.

“Let’s go out there and put up an affirmative defense on this election activity that was inappropriate,” Gaetz responded.

Unfortunately, at this point, it is unclear whether Trump’s current lawyers intend to present a positive defense of Trump, or whether they will simply argue that the trial is unconstitutional. If they go the latter route, they will leave unanswered the specious and slanderous allegations of Democrats that Trump had falsely claimed there was evidence of election fraud.

That’s why the idea of Gaetz on the president’s team is so exciting.

“I think so far the president has gotten a low-energy defense. I believe an essential element of the president’s defense is to show how his concerns about this election were valid and appropriate,” Gaetz said.

Gaetz and Bannon pointed out that Sen. Rand Paul had already gotten 45 GOP senators to go on the record saying that the impeachment trial is itself unconstitutional. Therefore, there is no way that Trump can be convicted. So this is an opportunity for President Trump to educate the public about the many irregularities in the 2020 election. You will still prove that the prosecution is unconstitutional, but you will also prove that the allegations of election fraud are not baseless.

“This is like an offensive play where the other team has already jumped offsides. You have a free shot, so don’t go small… go big! … Let’s not play to the Senate; let’s play to the country. Let’s play to our people. Let’s give them something to be excited about,” Gaetz said.

Bannon hammered hard at the idea of Gaetz taking the lead in the impeachment trial, advising Gaetz to contact Trump immediately and resign from Congress by tomorrow.

  1. President Trump was right to suggest that Vernon Jones remain a democrat in order to have a perspective in the Democrat party other than liberal progressives. The same is true of Matt Gaetz. President Trump can hire attorneys, but it’s better to have as many loyal people in the House of Representatives as possible. Plus, the attacks on Gaetz are increasing which means he is doing his job! And doing it well!
