Sometimes, this daily toil of writing a Heartland Diary entry seems like “a voice crying in the wilderness.” I have the comfort of supporting a president whom I love, and working as a messenger for a stronger America, but I don’t always know if my message is getting through. From my little perch in Montana, am I really making a difference?
Last week I got a note of encouragement that lifted me up and made me feel like my daily journal is worth all the effort I put into it.
The morning mail on Wednesday brought me an envelope with a return address of “The White House, Washington, DC 20520.” No, it wasn’t from President Trump, but it was from someone who does much more than I do to carry his message forward.
Stephanie Grisham, the president’s press secretary and communications director, had sent me a thank-you note for my column at Real Clear Politics the week before.
I wanted to share that note because I feel it is also an acknowledgement of the MAGA community as a whole for standing with our president.
Grisham wrote in part, “It is hard to find fair and balanced coverage of this White House, yet your article was able to brilliantly capture the relationship between President Trump and the hostile media.”
My Sept. 9 column was entitled “In Media War, It’s Trump vs. the Black Knight,” and made the case that President Trump’s unfiltered dealings with the press had given him the ability to not just tell his side of the story but to actually control the media, whose Pavlovian reaction to his every word has become predictable. I used the Monty Python skit about the Black Knight to highlight the Fake News Media’s obliviousness that they are losing their credibility just as the knight lost his limbs to King Arthur’s sword.
I also made an entertaining pastiche video that combines Trump calling out the Fake News Media with scenes from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” as Arthur dismembers the Black Knight. I subtitled it “The Media Doesn’t Have a Leg to Stand On.” You can watch that here:
You can read that column here at Heartland Diary USA where I reprint all my Real Clear Politics columns.
Ms. Grisham ended her note to me by saying, “Keep up the great work.” Thanks, Stephanie. With the support of you and my other readers, I will do just that. To me, it is a patriotic mission as important as the calling of those New Frontiersmen that thronged to Washington DC to help President Kennedy. And since Kennedy didn’t get to complete his mission, perhaps more important than ever.
