It’s time that we take note and recognize that we are living in the middle of a cultural revolution, which I propose to call Woke War One.
Every day some new idiocy surfaces, which reveals how out of touch with reality the politically correct mob is. In fact, it’s usually more like a dozen things a day. Here, to whet your appetite, are three foolish liberal ideas that surfaced in the last 24 hours:
1) No surprise. CNN has completely surrendered to the transgender lobby and has apparently eliminated women as a gender altogether. In a health story today about cervical cancer, CNN objectified the formerly respected female gender by reducing them to something called “individuals with a cervix.”
Here’s the lede:
“Individuals with a cervix are now recommended to start cervical cancers screening at 25 and continue through age 65, with the primary human papillomavirus (HPV) testing every five years as the preferred method of testing, according to a new guideline released Thursday by the American Cancer Society.”
The words “woman,” “women,” and “female” appear nowhere in the story. Apparently CNN thinks that by such verbal legerdemain, it will be able to make you forget that transgender “women” lack not only a Y chromosome, but also the equipment to make babies.
Breitbart has tracked down the apparent origin of the gender-obscuring language — something called the Trans Journalists Association. Here’s part of their report:
“CNN’s use of sex-neutral language appears to align with the Trans Journalists Association’s guidelines, which advise journalists to “avoid equating gender and anatomy in your coverage.” Instead, journalists should use sex-neutral terms in the name of inclusivity, using phrases such as “people with ovaries, people with prostates, people who can get pregnant.” Such language is precisely what CNN utilized.”
So much for news judgment. If you don’t know the difference between men and women, what exactly can we trust you about?
2) How about the Orwellian experiment in Seattle to make police less brutal (or something) by calling them by another name?
According to the Post Millennial website:
The Seattle City Council proposed a motion to abolish its police department and to instead “create a civilian led department of community safety & violence prevention.”
For more information, Andy Ngo, the Seattle journalist reporting from the front lines of the Woke War posted this on Twitter:
Seattle’s hard-left city council is trying to abolish SPD & replace it with a university-style group of activists trained in “trauma-informed, gender-affirming, anti-racist praxis.”
I can’t wait until the “gender-affirming, anti-racist praxis” tries to prevent violence when the other side has a little something called an equal-opportunity semi-automatic weapon.
3) Not to be left behind, the New York Times is considering changing its slogan to “All the News that Fits Our Liberal Agenda.”
Not really, but the New York Times Guild has urged the newspaper to add a new policy to protect its readers (and its easily triggered employees) from big bad scary news they might not agree with.
“Get it right from the beginning: sensitivity reads should happen at the beginning of the publication process, with compensation for those who do them,” the Times Guild wrote.
Back when I was in grade school, we called that the least common denominator. By the time you get through sensitivity checking the news, a bank robbery is going to become an unscheduled withdrawal, a shooting is going to become a generous blood donation, and a Marxist revolutionary is going to just be a plain-Jane Democrat. (Oops! That last part is true!)
