Celebrities reduce hate speech by shutting TFU! Hooray!

Did you feel any better yesterday? Celebrities decided to do their part to fight hate speech by getting off of Facebook and Instagram for 24 hours. No more lying about Trump for one day!

Kim Kardashian West was one of the leaders of this genuinely selfless act. She wrote on Twitter:

“I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation — created by groups to sow division and split America apart — only to take steps after people are killed. Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy. Please join me tomorrow when I will be ‘freezing’ my Instagram and FB account to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit.”

I know I appreciate the gesture, and yes, I felt a lot better knowing that the Hollywood elites and the celebrity class in general were staying away from their social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram so they could not pollute the debate with their usual insults and threats against conservatives. Talk about spreading hate for profit! These celebrities are among the worst offenders

Imagine! A full 24 hours when Cher could not call President Trump a mass murderer! A full 24 hours when Bette Midler could not blacken the Internet with claims that anyone who voted for Trump is a Nazi! A full 24 hours when  LeBron James could not call me a racist for being white! Does anyone think the riots could take place across our country if they did not have the pandering support of the celebrity class?

Sadly, 24 hours is just not long enough to get rid of all celebrity hate speech. We need a full-time ban on celebrities who try to use their platforms to attack the rest of us for having opinions that differ from theirs. Please join me in promoting the hashtag #StopCelebrityHateSpeech.

I really don’t feel safe on Facebook or Instagram as long as Sacha Baron Cohen, Katy Perry and Bette Midler are allowed to have a platform.

  1. Celebrity “radio silence” is a benefit to all of us. A true blessing. As you said, the pandering to the felons and thugs has been blatant. Their approval of ripping apart and looting cities is ok for them because they live safely behind walls with maximum armed security. They are Pitiful.
