Now what?!? Trump campaign disassociates itself from Sidney Powell

OK, this is one that no one saw coming. The Trump campaign put out a press release Sunday afternoon that says “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”

That qualifies as a bombshell. It was signed by Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis.

Lots of people think Powell is the key to proving that Democrats stole the election from President Trump. She has been leading the charge to create a new American Revolution, and was a key part of the campaign’s official press conference last week, but she has also become a lightning rod for criticism. Her claims of vote flipping, bribery and communist plots have been elaborate but so far unproven.

That led to a public feud with Tucker Carlson, who obviously was not convinced that Powell had the evidence to back up her claims. I also pointed out in my post about Tucker that the facts about Venezuelan influence/origin of Dominion Voting Systems didn’t seem to be supported by the publicly known facts.

So what happens now? We will have to wait and see.

Powell was suspended from Twitter earlier Sunday, but she put out a statement through the Parler account of Michael Flynn Jr., saying she agrees with the move:

Flynn added in a later post that the move frees up Powell to not clear everything through the official Trump legal team and to accept donations on her own as she pursues a legal strategy independently.

Gen. Flynn later added his own tweet on Powell, who has been leading Flynn’s defense team.

If Powell is now working on her own behalf, she’s in good company. Georgia attorney Lyn Wood has brought suit in Georgia on his own behalf. Whether Powell can do so in Pennsylvania or any other states is unclear. But whether a Trump can win the presidency without proving Powell’s theories is also unclear.

Monday may be the tipping point. If Powell packs up her legal briefs and heads home, the case may crumble without her. But if Powell is still full speed ahead, there may still be reason to be hopeful. Let’s hope that all the attorneys working in the interest of Trump (even if not on his behalf) continue to share information and strategies.

It’s possible this is nothing more than a personality conflict. Rudy Giuliani, the president’s chief counsel, is rather colorful and dominating. Powell is the same. Maybe they just couldn’t work together. It’s hard to see Sidney Powell taking a back seat to anyone.

In any case, this is going to hearten Trump’s enemies. This week is probably going to be “make or break” for the legal fight, although with Thanksgiving on Thursday, I could see things stretched out till the middle of the next week. Fingers crossed.
